Senior Prizegiving 2017

On Friday 3 November 2017, scholarships and grants worth over $250,000 were awarded to our senior students.    The award of Dux, the highest academic award in any school went to Airu Teng and the award of Proxime Accessit to the Dux was made to Vienna Trainor, this year's head girl.  Other significant scholarships included the Louise Gardner Scholarship and the University of Auckland Top Achiever Scholarship, which were both awarded to Deputy Head Girl, Scarlett Parkes.    Other scholarships included three University of Auckland Academic Potential scholarships awarded to three Year 13 recipients:  Habibah Haneef; Vienna Trainor and Marwa Nazari.

AUT Scholarships covering $6,000 of fees each year for three years were awarded to Yamin Cook, Deputy Head Girl Chant'e Leafa and Selena Hafoka.  

Four Year 12 students received First Foundation Scholarships.  These four year scholarships are funded by businesses and trusts and provide the students with a personal mentor, paid work experience and an extensive student development programme.   The scholarships were awarded to:  Maryane Ma'asi, sponsored by the Auckland District Health Board; Selu Kian-Faketoese, sponsored by Sky City, Sabrita Grace Kalone, sponsored by Sistema and Samyah Powell sponsored by Steel & Tube NZ. 

Congratulations to all of these girls - we are very proud of you.

AGGS Welcomes Black Ferns Home

Students from AGGS Kahurangi Whanau Unit welcome home the victorious Rugby World Cup Black Ferns in a special ceremony held at the Vodafone Arena. The girls were delighted when members of the Black Ferns joined in with their haka. 

Deputy Head Girl Key Note Speaker at NZ Education Conference

Scarlett Parkes, Deputy Head Girl, was one of the key speakers at the recent NZ Education Conference in front of 700 people.  The theme of her presentation was Global Citizenship and this followed on from her attendance earlier this year at a UNESCO International Forum in Quebec, Canada. VOTING AT AGGS

On Tuesday 12 and Wednesday September all of our students went to the polls to cast their vote in a Mock Election run by TIC Social Studies Etomia Wilson and the Social Science committee.

The girls have been discussing in Social Studies the policies and promises of the various candidates and parties in the Auckland Central Electorate and on 12 and 13 September, in circumstances very similar to what their parents and whanau will vote in on Election Day, 23 September, they cast their votes. 

This, we believe is an essential part of growing good citizens, who are interested and involved.
