In the April Holidays 27 students and 4 teachers went to Hawaii on a Geography trip. The aim of the trip was to study the development of tourism.
We started on the Big Island of Hawaii and saw the Halema'uma'u crater at the summit of Mt Kilauea and then travelled down what was once the town of Kalapana. It is now covered in lava from Kilauea.
The lava we walked on came out of the volcano as recently as January. We then flew to Oahu and stayed at Waikiki where the students developed a fantastic understanding of how tourism works and saw how Waikiki is set up so well for tourists.
During our stay we went to the USS Arizona Memorial, went snorkelling at Hanauma Bay Nature Reserve, walked up Diamond Head, went kayaking and Stand up Paddleboarding at Kailua beach and experienced a Luau.
