Facilities
The school is centred around a magnificent historic building set in beautiful grounds on a slope overlooking the Waitemata Harbour. We have modern science laboratories, three well-equipped computer pods and a state-of-the-art Technology Block - with workshops and design areas.

   


Academic Achievement
Auckland Girls' Grammar School prepares students for studying at University and other tertiary institutions. Our wide range of academic and vocational courses enable our students to achieve excellent results in the national qualifications assessments and examinations.

Services
The library provides a broad collection of computer-catalogued resources aimed at meeting the curricula and recreational needs of the students. There is an extensive and diverse fiction collection. Non-fiction and reference materials are available in both print and electronic formats. Magazines include academic and general interest serials and are reference only. Students are able to use e-mail and internet with staff supervision, and have open access to the school intranet, CD-ROMs and additional computer programmes.

English Language Assistance (ESOL)
We offer extra support in English at every level from beginners to those studying reading and writing for University study (IELTS). This is included in the tuition fee.

   
 


Learning Centre
The Learning Centre is staffed by a team of professionals whose focus is the individual learning needs of all students. Students from Years 9-13 attend the Centre for a number of reasons.

Extension programmes for students with educational abilities. These programmes are provided for students from Year 9 - 13. They include Future Problem Solving, Thinking Skills and Study Skills. The programmes are run as required and can be on a small group or individual basis.

Individual assessments for students who are experiencing difficulties in certain aspects of learning and to follow up support may be given to the development of appropriate programmes.

Enrichment programmes and extra support for students experiencing difficulties in individual subjects is also provided within the faculties along with the learning centre programmes providing life skills, literacy and numeracy.

Teacher Aides are available to support students within mainstream classes.

Generally students attending the Learning Centre have been referred by their teacher. They work on programmes designed to meet their individual needs. If you wish to know more about the Centre, please contact Fiona Larsen, the Learning Centre Coordinator.

We share one member of our team with St Mary's College. The Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) works with students in Years 9-10 who have difficulty managing their study and/or behaviour.

We have introduced an Information Literacy Programme in Year 9 classes.

Student Support Services
The Dean of International Fee-paying Students and the Homestay Co-ordinator are available to help with any problems students may have at school or at home. The school also employs two fully trained guidance counsellors, a registered nurse and a careers advisor.
