AGGS’ Leading students head into the rest of 2025 with bolstered communication skills after
learning the tricks of the trade from one of Aotearoa’s best.
Former TVNZ veteran newsreader Wendy Petrie spent a sunny February afternoon at school at
AGGS with this year’s prefects, coaching them on comms, public speaking and media/social media.
It’s the second year running that Petrie has mentored the AGGS’ student leaders – paying-it-
forward a role which she cherishes.
“It’s a privilege to work with these amazing prefects,” says Petrie, “I love working with girls who will
be our city and our nation’s future leaders.”
As the anchor of TVNZ’s One News since 2006 Petrie has had experience all over the world as a
journalist, news reader and public speaker. She has two daughters (and a son) of her own, so
understands the importance of impactful advice throughout a student’s secondary school
education.
Petrie’s just one of the mentors who are involved with AGGS students, at all levels, with mentoring
becoming a crucial arm of the school’s bespoke approach to its students’ education.
