Arts & Culture

Auckland Girls’ Grammar School is renowned for our high-quality biennial school productions. Students are actively involved in all aspects, including acting, playing in the band, and handling backstage, lighting, costume creation, wardrobe, stage makeup, and front-of-house duties. Past successful productions include “Grease,” “The Wiz,” “The Sound of Music,” and “Return to the Forbidden Planet.”

Through our school music itinerant scheme, students have access to learning a wide range of musical instruments. Tuition is available for piano, bass guitar, guitar, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and drums. Lessons are usually in small groups and follow a revolving timetable, with private piano lessons also available.

Students are encouraged to join co-curricular music groups, including the auditioned choir, chamber music groups, flute ensemble, string groups, and jazz combo. Each year, our students regularly participate in competitions such as the Westpac Chamber Music Competition, with several bands excelling in the Pacifica Beats competition.

In dance, our students participate in local festivals and competitions, including “Bring It On.” We actively promote engagement with a wide range of arts by organising visits to local art galleries, attending APO concerts, providing music mentors, and holding lunchtime concerts to ensure students have access to the broader arts community.
