Senior Prizegiving 2021

Like many things in 2021, our senior prizegiving looked very different this year. Even though we were in a level 3 lockdown, we were still able to find a way to acknowledge our Year 13 prizewinners and scholarship recipients for all their hard work. Flying in the face of Met Service predictions of rain, we forged ahead with our ceremony on November 17th - out on the lawn, socially distanced and all masked up with plenty of hand sanitiser.Whānau and friends watched over proceedings on a live stream from home, and we watched them, from our seats, on a big screen.
Congratulations to all our Year 13 students on all they have achieved, over $500,000 worth of scholarships and awards were made to our students at Prizegiving.

We wish all of our students and their families a happy and relaxing holiday.  We look forward to welcoming them and our new Year 9 cohort to school in February 2022.

University Success - Congratulations Mackenzie

The University of Auckland Young Scholars Programme extends academically able students in Year 13 to study a Stage 1 paper in a variety of subjects. In the 1st semester this year Mackenzie Adams 13 KCL studied Philosophy 105 Critical Thinking.She achieved an A+ which will be on her University transcript as she intends studying at the University of Auckland in 2022.
Her comments are: "The University of Auckland Young Scholars programme was a valuable opportunity for me because I was able to experience what university is like by completing a first year philosophy course. Completing a course in the Young Scholars Program gave me the opportunity to connect with other high school students who were participating in the programme. I was also able to see the level of work required for the first year of university and was able to learn more about an area I am interested in. I would recommend this programme for anyone who wants to extend themselves and is prepared to work hard."

Here is our latest Newsletter.  Term 2 is almost over and as you can see our students have been very busy indeed in the classroom, on the sports field and with a myriad of different extra-curricular activities.

Year 13 Tourism explore Rotorua

Sixteen students and two teachers spent two fun, exciting and of course educational days at the end of May, exploring all that Rotorua has to offer as one of NZ's premium tourist destinations.  They rolled down in the Zorb and listened to a talk by the  founder of the company about how the business started in the early 2000’s. They rode the gondola to the Skyline then raced down on the Luge and were briefed on the operations and history of the development of this attraction.  At the Rotorua museum they had an informative chat about the history of Tourism in NZ  and The Bay of Plenty as well as learning about the Mt Tarawera eruption.  The Redwood Night Tree walk was a highlight and before coming home they visited Katoa Jet boats for a spin on lake Rotorua.
