On Wednesday 28th October, 16 Year 10 AGGS students attended the Engineering Young Māori Minds Day. The focus of this event was for Māori students to explore and experience a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) learning environment that is fun, safe and immersed in tikanga Māori and whakawhanaungatanga. The girls worked in teams to complete STEM challenges such as building a catapult, designing and building a robotic insect and a waka that could travel on both land and water. They were competing against Māori students from other schools but AGGS was the only all girls school attending. The challenges weren’t easy, requiring problem solving, creativity, perseverance and lots of cooperation and teamwork.
The girls loved every part of the day, especially the prizegiving at the end, where AGGS was presented with the first place trophy. Tino pai rawa atu!
